Things to consider when purchasing fine art prints

Call Me Before Ordering! Not because I am bored sitting by the phone, but because it will save everyone time - you get exactly what you want in a fine art print. What’s the fuss? I offer prints on various media and some are outsourced to specialized printers. Some vendors offer media I do not stock or am not equipped to print in house. Some ship rolled, some are rigid flats and come in a box.

Photo papers include, gloss, satin, matte, and metallic paper (not to be confused with metal prints). You need to specify which.

Fine art papers include both matte and satin finishes: Hahnemuhle Ultra Smooth Fine Art 305g and Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta 315g. Both are beautiful. Other media are available (call).

All my canvas prints are coated. This protects the print surface and provides a degree of UV protection. Canvas prints may be traditionally framed or wrapped on stretcher bars - museum wrap. This selection is made under styles in the selection/checkout process.

All photo, fine art, and canvas prints are shipped rolled! I do not do any matting or framing in house. Some of my vendors do mount prints on a rigid substrate for framing and stretch canvas. These are special order. For large prints it is strongly suggested you order a test print.

Prints are typically either hinge mounted or dry mounted. Hinge mounts are OK for smaller prints, but dry mounting to a rigid substrate for framing is advisable for larger prints. A good framing shop can do either. A low rent operation will ruin a print attempting to dry mount it. Shipping a mounted print to a framing shop is an option.

Prints can be viewed in direct sunlight to display brilliant color and vibrance, but NEVER leave any print in direct sunlight for an extend period of time – sunlight is murder on prints. The light you view your print in is important. They will look awful under junk LEDs or fluorescent lighting. There are museum LEDs that cost a fortune. I use the Philips Par 30 75w 3000k LEDs. They are excellent, available everywhere for ~$12. Soraa is better for ~$30+.

TAXES - everyone but government hates them. However, they are the law and a complicated mess. There is a concept known as ‘presence’, or a business nexus, based upon a threshold volume of business done outside one’s home state – generally $100k per year (more in some states). I am only subject to Nevada sales tax at present and my site handles that and rolled print shipping quite well. Some vendors are subject to out of state tax, some not – another reason to call me before placing orders.

SHIPPING: I offer free shipping on all media that can be shipped rolled – photo paper, fine art paper, and canvas. Rigid media are ALL FOB PLANT and shipping is extra.
